An idea of what Ocala Florida’s weather is like from month to month

Ocala Florida Weather Report January 2017

The weather in Ocala for December was unusually warm. Some days hit the low 80’s and I had to turn my AC on in the afternoon to cool the house down. Most days were in the mid to high 70’s and the low 60’s at night.

January is winter in Ocala although this year is starting off exceptionally war. Winter is all about cold fronts. A front will come in and day time temperatures will drop to the low 60’s or even high 50’s. At night we can get a frost or even a light freeze. We don’t get a freeze very year. Some times we go for years between freezes. Because our temperatures are so mild many if not most homes use a heat pump for heating. A heat pump is a central air conditioner that can heat in the same way it cools. Heat pumps only work in very mild climates like Ocala.

Most days in January are in the 70’s with no humidity and the sun shines most days. The hot humid summers are a small price to pay for winters like we have in Ocala. Email me or use my Ocala Dream Home Finder and I’ll show you what you can get for a home here.

Ocala Florida weather report for December 2016

It’s December 13th today. At 330 this afternoon it is 78 degrees with almost no humidity and the sun is shining. That’s a few degrees above normal. This is what the beginning of winter is like here in Ocala. I was out mowing my lawn this morning.

November was one of the driest Novembers on record according to the weather guy on TV. We got almost no rain at my house in SW Ocala. November is one of our driest months but this one was extra dry.

December is a great month in Ocala. Warm, sunny and dry. If you don’t look forward to the winters the way I do why not move. Email me, call me or use my Ocala Dream Home Finder and I’ll help you move. All I do is help buyers relocate to Ocala. The hot humid summers are a small price to pay for no winters.

Ocala Florida weather report November 2016

October was normal with no surprises. We missed Hurricane Mathew. The weather gradually cooled off from the low 90’s to the mid 80’s. And the humidity went away as the month went on.

November is a great month in Ocala. Temperatures in the high 70’s. Cool nights in the 60’s. Dry sunny days. It hasn’t rained in weeks which is pretty normal.

October is a transition month weather wise here in Ocala. The first half is still hot and humid with temperatures in the high 80’s and even low 90’s. Towards the end of the month the dry air comes back and the temperatures go down into the low 80’s.

Hurricane Mathew is in the Caribbean and heading up the coast. Being in the center of the state the Ocala area will get heavy rain and some wind. I will update this post after Mathew passes.

Hurricane Mathew Update : There was minor damage, downed trees and power outages in the eastern parts of Marion County. Here in the SW area off SR 200 where I live and many of the retirement communities are located we got lite winds and a little rain. Summer thunderstorms are much worse. I had just moved to Ocala in 2004 when 4 hurricanes hit Florida. In the SW area we had a lot of rain and some trees got knocked down. I never even lost my power. Fear of hurricanes was a major reason I personally decided to move to Ocala.

Ocala Florida weather report September 2016

September is the height of hurricane season. Hurricane Hermine went up into the Big Bend area of Florida and up through Georgia. At my house in the SW corridor near the SW 200 retirement communities we got some wind and 3-4 inches of rain. Oddly enough a couple of days later we got more rain from just a heavy storm than we did Hermine.

September here in Ocala is not the beginning of fall it is a full fledged summer month with high humidity and temperatures in the 90’s. The heat and humidity doesn’t begin to go away until late October.

Remember the hot humid summers are a small price to pay for no winter.

Ocala Florida weather report August 2016

During July we saw record hot weather here in Ocala. In the SW area where I live close to the retirement communities it was very dry. We had very little rain fall in a month where the norm is 2-3 thunderstorms a week. Without a doubt the hottest and driest July since I moved here in 2004.

August is supposed to be hot humid and wet. We will see about the wet part. August is also the month when hurricanes really get going. The last several years have been very quiet. Hurricanes get started off of Africa and form over the warm water of the Atlantic. In the past few years huge sand storms blowing off the Sahara desert have disrupted hurricanes from forming. Weird but that is what the local weather guy said.

Ocala Florida weather report July 2016

So far at my house in SW Ocala not far from the retirement communities it has been a very hot dry summer. I see it raining down near Orlando and out towards Daytona but here in Ocala it has been dry for this time of year. It has also been hot, up in the mid 90’s during the day and close to 80 when I get up to put my dog out around 630. It is hurricane season but not much happens until late next month when the ocean water heats up. For the rest of the summer it will be hot and humid with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. All of this is a small price to pay for no winter.

Ocala Florida weather report June 2016

I have not been keeping up with my weather reports so here is a over view of spring 2016. I think it was fairly dry and temperatures pretty normal. I think of spring starting in Ocala on March first and going to Memorial day. It is warm and dry in the spring here. Starting in the 70’s during March and going up to the high 80’s by May. The summer humidity doesn’t return until late May. There isn’t a lot of rain during the spring here.

June started off as hot and very humid. You almost don’t need a weather report during the summer here. It is hot and humid with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms every day. June is also the beginning of hurricane season but most hurricanes are towards the fall when the ocean water is at it’s warmest. Ocala is the least likely area in Florida to get hit by a hurricane and property insurance rates reflect that.

Ocala weather report March 2016

Winter is over here in Ocala. It was a mild winter this year with a couple of light frosts but no hard freeze where I live in SW Ocala. Today is March 7. This week we expect temperatures to gradually increase from the high 70’s today to the mid to high 80’s by weeks end. The grass is still mostly brown. Grass here doesn’t like cool temperatures and goes dormant but it will be green in a couple of weeks. The azaleas are getting ready to bloom and if you vegetable garden now is the time to plant.

If you are depressed and looking forward to several weeks of lousy weather then move to Ocala. Home prices are going up but there are still good deals especially compared to northern states. The humid hot summers are a small price to pay for 6 weeks of winter that is more like fall in New England where I grew up.

Ocala Florida weather for February 2016

January 2016 was warm and a very wet month. We had a light frost at my house in SW Ocala but not a hard freeze. It was also a very wet month where I had to drain my pool a couple of times to keep it from over flowing. That is really unusual this being the dry season when in past years it wouldn’t rain for 2 to 3 weeks at a time.

February is the last of our winter months. The first 3 weeks are our sort of winter and the forth week things begin to warm up. Highs can range from the high 50’s to high 70’s. We can get a frost at night or even a freeze. If you look at a vegetable planting guide it says Ocala can get a frost until mid March but I haven’t seen that in my dozen or so years living here. Winter is a nice time of year here.
